Jamie Hanson was interested from an early age in families who did not have a typical two-parent household stemming from his own experiences growing up with a single mother. He began to question “norms” in society and consider people who might fall outside typical situations such as single-parent households or low-income individuals. At the University of Pittsburgh, he investigates these issues through his study of poverty and its impact on the developing brain.
